About the festival
A familiar place.
A new perspective.
Every year, Lovran becomes a meeting place for architecture, light and sound.
In St. George’s Square, animations follow the outlines of façades and the bell tower, while gallery programmes and installations open up new spaces for art.
Behind every evening are artists, students and collaborators who see familiar surroundings afresh. The digital model reveals the architecture that becomes their canvas.

Through the
years.
Svjetlarna grew out of the Lovran Neighbourhood cultural programme, part of Rijeka 2020 — European Capital of Culture. From its first gallery experiments, it has developed into a meeting of light, artists and audiences in the historic town centre.
From the gallery to the whole square- 2021
Light enters the gallery
At Laurus Gallery, students from the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka create light environments through Platform for Experiment 4.2 workshops.

The square becomes a stage
The first projection mapping of St. George’s Square brings animation and sound to its façades. Contributors include Damjan Šporčić, Gaia Radić, Iztok Hrga and students from the Academy.

Two evenings, new experiences
The festival expands to two November evenings with different audiovisual programmes. Projections in the square are accompanied by student workshops at Laurus Gallery and the Academy.

From the square to the park
Alongside projections in the square, the programme connects an exhibition at Laurus Gallery with interactive light installations by Visualia Group in Croatian Defenders Park.

Svjetlarna brings together the Municipality of Lovran, the Tourist Board and the artistic community. Students from the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka have participated since 2021 under Lara Badurina’s mentorship. The Municipality and the Academy formalised their collaboration in 2025.
